The character of the area
El Portal is a very small separate municipality wedged between Miami Shores and Miami. Its area is among the smallest in Miami-Dade: the village is a handful of streets and can be walked from one end to the other.
The Little River draws its northern boundary and directly shapes its character: the mature tree canopy along the water separates El Portal from the denser Miami fabric around it.
The El Portal Nature Trail and the Sherwood Forest Indian Mound are its public spaces. There is almost no commercial corridor — daily needs are met from neighboring communities. The building stock is low-rise and nearly all single-family.
Worth knowing
The village is so small that property transfers are infrequent: the number of qualified sales recorded in our measurement window falls below the threshold needed to publish a reliable median. That also explains why the market strip is not drawn on this page — an "average" computed from a handful of transactions describes those few houses, not the area.
